Mental manipulation is trying to make you think something other than what you normally would. So Counterspell won't help since it's really a big rock doing the damage. But otherwise it seems pretty real.ĭamaging manipulation spells aren't cast at YOU, they are cast at some object which is then used to hurt you. If you happen to notice that there are inconsistencies, then you may realize it's an illusion. Physical based illusions really do appear. Since it's against you personally, Counterspell should help. Your mind is resisting having the illusion implanted. Mana based illusions are really Mind based illusions. Passive are more like a Perception check to see if you're hiding well enough. Passive detection are just looking, and if you happen to be there, you may be noticed. So instead of a Fireball exploding right on top of you, it explodes behind you instead.Īctive detection spells are looking for you, and you are resisting them finding you.
However, Counterspell can deflect the AOE of the spell.
You can't really "dodge" a grenade explosion, although your armor can attempt to resist some of the damage. Fireball produces a fiery explosion just like a grenade exploding. Indirect spells produce some kind of environmental effect, which behaves just as it would mundanely. And since you are specifically determining whether the spell energies connect, Counterspell would work great. If the spell connects, you can not resist the damage it inflicts. When you oppose the roll, you are avoiding contact with the spell. If you were hiding behind a curtain, and your silhouette were clearly visible, the spell would still fail. That's why the Mage needs a direct line of sight in order to affect you. But they go all over with the wording it doesn't seem like it means anything anymore.ĭirect combat spells are basically targeting your aura. Physical: What kind of test is this and what applies to it, yet again.
Physical Illusions: Still no idea what can modify these rollsĭamaging: This is straight up resisted. Mana Illusions: No idea what can modify this roll either Passive: Same! But this time it calls out that counterspelling definitely doesn't work. No idea what bonus dice to apply here, except for counterspelling! It finally gets called out explicitly. Indirect: What applies here? Would all normal things like cover, superior advantage, etc, apply? Adept spell resistance, etc?Īctive: Again, doesn't say exactly what kind of a test it is. Is there no defense at all against direct combat spells? Does full-defense apply? What about counterspelling? What about the adept power spell resistance? It specifically calls out spell resistance tests, but you don't get to resist. Is this a defense test? It refers to it as a Spellcasting test. It's hard for me to tell what the tests actually are called, so determine what other effects might raise or lower the dice pools.ĭirect: It says its an opposed test. "Watch your back, shoot straight, conserve ammo, and never, ever, cut a deal with a dragon."
